Position Description:A Non-Profit Organization is looking for a bilingual (English/Spanish) attorney with 3-5 years of immigration law experience to provide legal consultations, advice and full representation to low-income immigrants, refugees and asylum seekers in a broad range of matters including petitions, consular matters, waivers, removal matters, appeals and other relevant applications, petitions and/or court filings with USCIS, DOJ, DOL and/or DOS. As CVLS' only in-house immigration attorney, the lawyer will be responsible for overseeing our immigration program, screening new cases, managing a caseload and recruiting, supervising, and supporting new volunteers. They will also work with program partner AILA-Chicago and an existing volunteer base of attorneys with cases. Salary is $80,000 to $90,000 DOE.
Position Requirements:
- A J.D. and a current, active Illinois law license.
- Professional fluency in oral and written English and Spanish.
- A minimum 3-5 years handling a variety of immigration cases.
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to work independently and in a team.
- Ability to direct and manage a program with minimal supervision, including both a personal caseload and supervision of volunteer attorneys on pro bono matters.
- Experience working with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Experience working with LegalServer or the ability to learn quickly and accurately.
- Empathy, patience, a sense of humor, and a demonstrable commitment to working with low-income and minority clients.
- Ability to work with volunteer attorneys of varying skill levels and temperaments.
