Overview:We are a consumer-focused law firm assisting clients in financial distress. We are seeking an experienced Part-Time Bankruptcy Attorney (Of Counsel) to join as a contractor. This flexible, remote role is ideal for a solo practitioner or an experienced attorney looking for supplemental, structured legal work between 10-15 hours per week. The primary focus of this position is reviewing Chapter 7 petitions and conducting thorough petition review calls with clients.
Responsibilities:
- Petition Review: Conduct rigorous legal audits of draft Chapter 7 bankruptcy petitions, schedules, financial statements, and supporting documentation prior to filing.
- Client Consultations: Lead petition review calls with clients to verify accuracy, explain legal disclosures, review assets/exemptions, and prepare them for the filing process and 341 Meeting of Creditors.
- Legal Strategy & Compliance: Ensure all filings strictly comply with Florida bankruptcy exemption laws, local bankruptcy rules across Florida districts and federal statutory requirements.
- Client Communication: Answer client questions regarding the bankruptcy process with clarity, compassion, and professionalism.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Bar Admission: Active license and in good standing with the Florida State Bar (required).
- Experience: Minimum of 3 years of hands-on Chapter 7 consumer bankruptcy experience, including petition preparation/review and client management.
- Technical Proficiency: Comfortable with modern law practice management tools, bankruptcy software (e.g., Best Case, MyCase, Clio), and video/phone conference technology.
- Communication: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with an empathetic approach to client interactions.
- Attention to Detail: Meticulous review habits to ensure zero errors on client schedules and petitions.
- Remote Setup: Secure home office setup, including high-speed internet, a dedicated phone line, and a secure computer setup adhering to client confidentiality standards.
