The Legal and Compliance Department (LCD) manages legal and regulatory compliance risk for GIC and partners with the business to ensure that such risks are identified, assessed and dealt with in a timely and efficient manner.
We are seeking a highly motivated, high-caliber venture capital lawyer to join our Legal Division. The successful candidate will initially spend time in our New York office before relocating thereafter to our San Francisco office. This candidate will work with other members of the Legal Division in supporting GIC's Technology Investment Group (although the precise scope of coverage may evolve over time in line with GIC's business needs).
Responsibilities:
- Identify key legal and reputational issues in transactions arising from investment activities.
- Recommend and implement creative solutions to address complex a wide variety of legal issues.
- Liaise and consult with top international and local law firms on a wide variety of legal matters, with a view to delivering superior services on a cost-effective basis.
- Review and manage transactions to close and draft and/or comment on associated contracts.
- Contribute and promote teamwork and collaboration among the LCD team.
- Participate in or contribute to GIC-wide initiatives and projects as needed on a global basis.
Requirements:
- You should have a law degree with strong academic results from a good law school with 3-5 years post qualification experience as a venture capital lawyer (whether in private practice or in-house). Relevant legal experience in relation to venture capital, emerging companies, startup financing, private equity, and/or investment funds matters will be an advantage.
- You should be licensed to practice law in a U.S. state (preferably New York or California).
- You possess an analytical mind, are intellectually curious, with a good knowledge of commercial law, and are able to identify legal risks and propose solutions while balancing business objectives.
- You have good negotiating skills, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, to effectively represent GIC in dealings with our counterparties and LCD with internal parties.
- You are adaptable to changes and are resourceful, can multitask within tight timelines, able to work independently and in a team, with drive and a strong desire to succeed.
