Description:
The Corporate Counsel - Litigation will assist in managing A Health Care Company's professional liability caseload and represent A Health Care Company in court cases, arbitrations, mediations and other law proceedings, as necessary.Essential Duties:
- Manage outside counsel, including development of strategy and management of all phases of pre-suit, litigation and trial; edit motions, pleadings, and other documents; strategize with local defense counsel and insurance adjusters regarding responses to demand letters; conduct internal investigations and fact gathering; oversee the handling of all elements of pre-trial discovery; respond to third-party document requests and subpoenas.
- Attend settlement conferences, mediations, arbitrations, and trials on behalf of A Health Care Company.
- Identify potential litigation risk and counsel our organization to minimize risk and potential exposure.
- Review, edit, and draft legal documents.
- Manage legal invoices.
- Distill complex legal issues and provide concise, articulate summaries and recommendations.
- Perform legal writing and research on a vast array of legal issues.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with senior leadership on a variety of legal matters.
- Assess and respond to complex inquiries and investigations, and high-risk litigation involving our healthcare services.
- Support A Health Care Company and its Legal Department by developing best practices for conducting investigations, training, tracking and monitoring inquiries and investigations, and responding to matters involving heightened risk.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education/Credentials/Experience
- Juris Doctorate obtained from an ABA-accredited law school
- Admitted to the bar and in good standing or otherwise authorized to practice law (e.g., have registered in-house status) in the State of Georgia.
- Minimum of 4 to 6 years of litigation and trial experience, with medical malpractice and section 1983 experience preferred.
