The position will be headquartered at and required to work from the Hill Farms State Office Building in Madison at least 2 days per week. Position Summary:
The Attorney Supervisor of the Division of Professional Credential Processing (DPCP) legal team manages and supervises a team of attorneys, paralegals, and other legal staff in the provision of credentialing services to professional boards and the Department of Safety & Professional Services (DSPS). This position reports to the Chief Legal Counsel and oversees and manages the legal review of application files, assigns and delegates work to staff, and researches credentialing legal issues. Specific responsibilities include:
  • Providing legal support and guidance to the regulatory authorities on credentialing matters.
  • Coordinating and conducting application legal reviews.
  • Performing administrative duties such as reviewing and analyzing proposed legislation, recommending changes to existing or proposed statutes, collaborating with DSPS staff from other divisions as well as staff from other agencies, and more.

Salary Information:
This position is in schedule-range (71-01) with an annual salary of $104,000 - $120,786, plus a $2.75 per hour add-on. A twelve-month probationary period is required. Pay for current state employees will be set in accordance with the Wisconsin State Compensation Plan.

Qualifications:
A minimum requirement for this position is a license to practice law in the State of Wisconsin at the time of application deadline.

Qualified applicants will have the following:
  • Experience supervising, managing, or overseeing professional staff (Duties of the role may include: setting of performance goals and completing performance evaluations, recruiting, onboarding and training, managing staff workload, addressing work rule violations and employee discipline
  • Experience working in two or more of the following legal areas (employment/labor, administrative, criminal, or civil law, licensing, regulatory/compliance)
  • Litigation experience in a court or in an administrative forum

In addition to having all the above, well qualified applicants will have at least one of the following:
  • Two or more years of experience supervising or managing attorneys and professional staff in a legal environment.
  • Experience providing legal counsel to executive management and/or organizational clients
  • Experience interpreting and applying Wisconsin's Fair Employment Act
