The primary purpose of this Attorney Manager II position is to supervise the attorneys and support staff in the Section. In addition to providing general guidance and oversight to the attorneys and support staff in the Section, the supervisor will take an active role in training and mentoring the newer attorneys. Additionally, the supervisor as part of the management responsibilities, will provide an additional layer of quality control of the work product prepared by the section's attorneys, especially with respect to section's dispositive briefing in federal and state courts, as well as appellate briefing. This position will be a resource for the more senior attorneys in the Section and will model best practices for all the staff in the Section. The Attorney Manager II may actively litigate (either independently or jointly) a limited number of more complex and high stakes cases in the Section. This position will also be responsible for collaboration with outside advisors and stakeholders as determined in discussions with the Division Head.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences
  • Ability to interpret and apply laws, constitutional provisions, statutes, administrative regulations, court decisions, legal principles, and other legal precedents.
  • Ability to analyze complex legal problems and render formal opinions.
  • Thorough knowledge of case, statutory, regulatory, and common law.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to provide technical and administrative supervision of others.

Minimum Education and Experience:

Licensed to practice law by the North Carolina State Bar and five years of progressively responsible professional legal experience.
