Under the general direction of the Assistant Chief Counsel in the Litigation Bureau, the incumbent will supervise, assists in directing the workload of and evaluating the performance of subordinate attorneys and paralegals as well as act in a lead capacity in the Assistant Chief Counsel's absence. The incumbent supervises a group of subordinate attorneys and other paraprofessional staff who perform a wide variety of legal work, with varying levels of complexity. Those activities may include interpreting laws, regulations and court decisions; handling taxpayer disputes; acting as a liaison with the Office of the Attorney General in litigation; enforcing the departments Conflict of Interest Code, providing advice and guidance to the department on matters concerning contracts and interagency agreements, taxpayer privacy concerns and disclosure, Information Practices Act and Public Records Act requirements, bankruptcy and collection practices (including non-tax debt collection and probate matters) as well as employment law matters. The incumbent develops strategies and best practices for completion of these projects, and may be required to personally handle the most complex assignments falling within the subject matter of the bureau. The incumbent will also be responsible for training and mentoring assigned staff and for maintaining a work environment that is free of discrimination and harassment.
