- Provide legal services and/or work in conjunction with outside counsel to provide the necessary legal services to all elements of the Company including the various operational departments and to upper/middle and top management.
- The legal services provided include a broad range of preventative, remedial and initiating actions in response to the needs of the Company requiring application of reasoned judgment derived from objective consideration of relevant facts and applicable legal/regulatory principles.
- Drive policy development, shape litigation strategy, and mentor and guide legal staff.
- Provide leadership, direction, and guidance to department staff, leveraging strong interpersonal and communication skills to build and maintain productive working relationships.
Required Education:
Bachelor's Degree plus professional degree, Juris Doctor or equivalent and successful admission to the Minnesota State Bar.
Required Experience:
Nine years or more experience as an attorney with satisfactory work performance.
Special Requirements:
- This position may be considered for a hybrid work arrangement based on ALLETE's needs. A Hybrid work arrangement means the employee's position will be a blend of work performed both in-person and at an offsite location such as an employee's home office. This position will report to Duluth, MN.
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
- Works under standard office conditions and follows a results-oriented approach, which may frequently require working beyond typical hours to meet business needs.
- This position may be subject to assessment of skills, job match and/or aptitude.

- Research: Proficient in researching statutes, regulations, and relevant rulings.
- Analysis: Strong analytical skills to assess legal risks and interpret legislation and contracts.
- Decision Making: Exercises sound legal judgment in advising on compliance, operations, and risk mitigation.
- Limited Litigation: Experienced in handling administrative proceedings and regulatory hearings.
- Persuasion: Effective advocate in regulatory, contractual, and internal advisory settings.
Compensation and Benefits:
- The expected annual compensation range for this position is $162,000 - $206,000. Compensation offered to the selected candidate will vary depending on relevant knowledge, skills, training, experience, and market conditions.
