Job Summary:Part-Time Attorney
General Atomics is seeking a part-time attorney to join our Law Department in the La Jolla/Torrey Pines technology corridor. This role is well suited for an experienced attorney seeking a reduced schedule, including individuals returning to the workforce or looking for approximately 20 hours per week with flexibility in how those hours are arranged.
Working under the guidance of senior legal counsel, the attorney will provide practical legal support across a range of corporate, contractual and dispute matters. The position will collaborate closely with attorneys, business teams, and other stakeholders to review, draft, and manage agreements that support the company's operations.
The salary range listed reflects the full-time annualized salary equivalent. This is a part-time position, and actual compensation will be prorated based on the scheduled hours worked.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide routine legal advice and support regarding the company's rights, obligations, and business activities.
- Review, draft, and assist with a variety of agreements, including:
- Standard commercial agreements
- Sales and purchase agreements
- Nondisclosure agreements
- Memoranda of understanding
- Licenses
- Service and vendor agreements
- Other corporate and commercial contracts
- Assist with corporate governance matters and related documentation.
- Identify legal, contractual, and business risks and recommend practical approaches to address them.
- Review agreements and supporting documentation to identify problematic provisions and confirm that applicable requirements and approvals are satisfied.
- Collaborate with attorneys and business partners to coordinate contract review, revisions, approvals, and execution.
- Assist with matters involving intellectual property, real estate, employment, insurance, and other areas as appropriate.
- Conduct legal research and remain informed regarding laws, regulations, and legal developments affecting the company's business.
- Assist with litigation, pre-litigation, transactional, and corporate matters as directed by senior legal counsel.
- Coordinate with outside counsel, government representatives, and other external parties when needed.
- Maintain accurate records and follow Law Department practices, procedures, and applicable company policies.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Part-time schedule of approximately 20 hours per week.
- Work hours may be arranged with the hiring manager based on business needs and the attorney's availability.
- This role is designed to provide meaningful legal work while offering greater flexibility than a traditional full-time position.
Job Qualifications:
Typically requires:
- An undergraduate degree and a law degree, such as an LL.B. or J.D.
- An active license to practice law in California or another jurisdiction in which the company conducts business.
- At least two years of progressively responsible legal experience, preferably involving corporate, commercial, or transactional matters.
The ideal candidate will have:
- Experience with reviewing and drafting commercial agreements.
- Familiarity with corporate governance documents and business operations.
- The ability to identify legal and contractual issues and provide clear, practical recommendations.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- The ability to work effectively with attorneys, business teams, management, customers, outside counsel, and other stakeholders.
- Sound judgment and the ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage priorities and meet deadlines.
- Proficiency with computer applications commonly used in the legal profession.
- The ability to work independently while also contributing effectively as part of a collaborative team.
