Description:
The of Counsel Attorney position is an independent contractor position. Successful candidate would be able and expected to handle select cases from start to finish. The independent contract attorney will also provide hearing/trial coverage services, legal research, writing and on an as-needed basis. The hours and schedule for the Contract Attorney will be flexible and will depend on the volume of projects for a given week. Some services may be performed remotely but travel to appear in Court will be necessary within Maryland primarily in Montgomery and Prince Georges Counties. The hourly rate will depend on experience.Duties and Responsibilities:
Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Be responsible for all aspects of assigned cases from start to finish
- Draft and file motions, briefs, and other pleadings in civil and criminal litigation matters (Landlord Tenant, Collections, Business Law, Criminal matters).
- Research legal issues, prepare research memoranda, and assist counsel in trial. Cover hearings or trials when counsel is not able to do so.
- Handle select cases from start to finish
- Experience, Knowledge, and Abilities:
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks and responsibilities.
- Ability to interpret and apply complex rules and regulations.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects.
- Excellent research, analytical, writing, and communication skills.
- Litigation experience preferred.
- Landlord Tenant experience preferred.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Licensed to practice law in the state of Maryland
- One (1) year of legal experience preferred.
