- Provide responses to legal issues, risk management, and compliance functions are they relate to the Company's responsibilities as a Case Management Contractor for Kansas.
- Establish a relationship and communicate with DCF, court/legal staff in the respective judicial district, court attendance, staff preparation for hearings/trials, appeals, addressing no reasonable efforts findings by the court, managing Interstate Compact on Placement of Children (ICPC) cases, Indian Child Welfare Act (ICWA) cases, etc.
- Provide consultation with staff to ensure any legally related questions/concerns are addressed through review of court reports and court service officer reports.
- Provide needed training to staff on the intersection of case management work and legal considerations including but not limited to court proceedings and testifying.
- Promote best practice and mitigate potential legal liability.
- Collaborate and partner with the legal/judicial staff and stakeholders and case management staff in efforts to best assist the children and families served.?
- Attend Child in Need of Care weekly court dockets.
- Provide consultation on Immigration cases and work with outside counsel for Immigration services. Request birth certificates from the country or origin for undocumented youth.
- Draft motions, orders, and pleadings as necessary.
- Provide legal research and legal memos.
- Review relinquishments, permanent custodianship, guardianships, adoption, SOUL, and other legal documentation.
- Follow Company Policy and Procedure.

To qualify for this job, you need to have:
- Degree Requirement - bachelor's degree, J.D. from an accredited law school
- A member of the Kansas State Bar in good standing. Certified to practice law in the State of Kansas.
- 21 years of age. Must pass a background check, fingerprinting, and physical, screening.
- Work Experience – four years of experience in legal practice.
- Experience in working on Child in Need of Care cases in front of the court, preferred
- Maintain agency-required training.
- Subject to inside conditions frequently, with protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature change. (Physical working requirements)
