Overview:The Tennessee Department of Health is seeking an Attorney to serve as a Contractor Associate General Counsel supporting rural healthcare regulation across Tennessee's 89 rural counties. This role focuses on disciplinary cases involving healthcare licensees, including investigation support, case resolution, and litigation before licensing boards. The position reports to a Deputy General Counsel and requires weekly in-office time.

Contract Details: This is a 37.5-hour/week contract position and is not eligible for state employee benefits. The selected candidate must obtain professional liability insurance before the start date.
Key Responsibilities:
- Represent the Department in administrative law cases before health-related boards.
- Review complaints and investigations involving healthcare licensees practicing in Tennessee's rural counties.
- Support Department investigators and licensing board consultants throughout investigations and case review.
- Handle litigation for formal disciplinary matters, including discovery, motion practice, negotiations, resolutions, and trials.
- Manage a high-volume caseload across multiple litigation phases.
- Assist with special projects and legislative work, including bill analysis related to rural healthcare delivery.
Qualifications:
- Juris Doctor degree required.
- Admission to the Tennessee Bar with a license in good standing required.
- Litigation experience, including trial experience, preferred.
- At least 1 year of relevant legal experience preferred.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills required.
- Ability to manage and prioritize a large workload, collaborate in a team environment, and demonstrate intellectual curiosity.
