Definition:
A Nonpartisan Organization seeks applicants for an attorney position. As a member of the ACLU of Nevada's legal team, Staff Attorneys engage in strategic impact litigation while collaborating with other departments to promote civil liberties and rights in the state of Nevada. This is a full time, in office position.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Proactively developing and engaging in litigation advancing civil liberties and civil rights in Nevada;
  • Representing the ACLU of Nevada and its clients in all aspects of legal representation, from pre-litigation advocacy through trial and appeal;
  • Conducting training sessions and workshops related to civil liberties for staff, organizational partners, and the general public;
  • Recruiting, training, and coordinating volunteer attorneys' work on ACLU of Nevada cases;
  • Working with various state, municipal, and school boards and their attorneys to resolve constitutional violations informally when appropriate;
  • Serving on law-oriented governmental commissions and law-oriented task forces in consultation with the Legal and Executive Directors;
  • Engaging in public speaking and news media interviews to articulate the ACLU of Nevada's views on a broad range of issues, in consultation with and by approval of the Legal and Executive Directors;
  • Collaborating with the Communications and Outreach Departments to educate the public about civil liberties and the litigation the affiliate is currently engaged in; and
  • Other duties as assigned by the Legal and Executive Directors.

Requirements and Qualifications:
  • J.D. and admission to the Nevada bar, or for an exceptional candidate, admission within one year of hire;
  • A preference for litigation experience related to civil liberties;
  • Excellent research, writing, oral advocacy, and analytical skills;
  • Experience working in collaborative, diverse, team-based environments;
  • Deep and demonstrated commitment to civil liberties, civil rights, and the principles traditionally valued by the ACLU; and
  • Willingness to relocate to the Las Vegas, Nevada, metropolitan area.
