Experienced Personal Injury & Wrongful Death Attorney
Law Offices of John Day, P.C. is seeking an experienced attorney to join our personal injury and wrongful death practice. Our firm represents individuals and families in serious personal injury, catastrophic injury, and wrongful death matters throughout Tennessee. We handle significant and complex cases and are committed to practicing law at a high level at every stage—from investigation and discovery through trial and appeal.

The Role:
The attorney will have substantial responsibility for personal injury and wrongful death cases and will work collaboratively with our attorneys and professional staff. Depending on experience, responsibilities will include:
  • Developing case strategy from initial investigation through resolution or trial;
  • Managing written discovery, document review, and complex factual and legal issues;
  • Taking and defending fact, medical, corporate representative, and expert depositions;
  • Working with medical, economic, engineering, and other expert witnesses;
  • Researching and briefing significant legal and evidentiary issues;
  • Evaluating damages and developing the evidence necessary to present a client's losses effectively;
  • Preparing and arguing substantive motions;
  • Participating in mediations and settlement negotiations;
  • Preparing cases for trial and serving as first or second chair at jury trials;
  • Communicating directly with clients and providing thoughtful, practical counsel throughout the representation; and
  • Working collaboratively with other attorneys and team members to achieve the best possible outcome for our clients.

Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will have:
  • Approximately 10 or more years of litigation experience, although we will consider candidates with fewer years who have significant relevant experience;
  • Demonstrated experience handling personal injury, wrongful death, medical malpractice, products liability, or other complex civil litigation;
  • Jury trial experience as first chair or in a meaningful second-chair role;
  • Substantial deposition experience, including taking and defending depositions;
  • Experience with expert discovery, including preparing for and taking or defending expert depositions;
  • Experience analyzing medical records, expert opinions, and complex damages issues;
  • Strong legal research, analytical, writing, and oral advocacy skills;
  • The judgment and experience necessary to assume significant responsibility for complex cases;
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail;
  • The ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team; and
  • A commitment to professionalism, responsiveness, and excellent client service.

Candidates must be licensed to practice law in the State of Tennessee or eligible for Tennessee licensure by examination or comity, with Tennessee licensure to be obtained within a mutually agreed-upon timeframe.
