The University of Alabama System (UA System) is seeking applications for the position of University Counsel. This on-site role is based in Birmingham on the campus of The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). Reporting to the Deputy Chief University Counsel-Business and Advising, the University Counsel will provide a broad range of legal services and strategic advice to UAB and its affiliated entities.Essential Duties:
- Managing administrative matters.
- Negotiating, drafting, and reviewing transactional documents.
- Providing legal advice and counsel, particularly in the areas of facilities and construction, athletics, academic research, regulations, contracts, and other transactional and business matters.
- Assisting the Chief University Counsel and Deputy Chief University Counsel-Business and Advising as needed, including research and drafting.
- The position may be required to perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Juris Doctor from an accredited law school and strong academic credentials.
- Must be licensed to practice law in the State of Alabama or must become licensed within six (6) months of hire.
- A minimum of seven (7) years of relevant legal experience.
- Demonstrated success in effectively serving a broad, diverse, and demanding clientele.
- Excellent legal research, analysis, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Experience working cohesively on team projects.
- Established ability to exercise independent judgment.
- Professional appearance and demeanor.
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous transactional and contract experience.
