State Fund's Subrogation Department is seeking a motivated Attorney III to join our legal team. Under the direction of an Assistant Chief Counsel, the Attorney III independently manages a subrogation caseload and represents State Fund before the Workers' Compensation Appeals Board (WCAB), California Civil Courts, Federal Courts, and Administrative Agencies.
This role involves managing subrogation matters that may carry significant financial exposure, legal sensitivity, and business impact, requiring sound judgment and excellent litigation skills. The selected candidate will also provide legal guidance to internal partners on subrogation related issues and play a key part in supporting State Fund's recovery efforts.
In this role, you will:
- Manage an average caseload of 30-50 subrogation matters.
- Conduct legal research, draft pleadings, prepare briefs, and provide written and oral legal opinions.
- Represent State Fund in hearings, mediations, settlement conferences, and court proceedings.
- Advise internal departments (Subrogation, Claims, Underwriting, and business partners) on subrogation-related issues.
- Analyze liability, damages, and recovery potential in third-party cases.
- Support subrogation-related projects and initiatives as assigned.
Working Conditions:
