About This Role:
The Department of Health Care Services (DHCS), Office of Legal Services (OLS), Benefits, Eligibility and Operations Branch (BEOB) is seeking an Attorney III to join the team. The Attorney III positions are crucial in reaching our mission of providing Californians with access to affordable, integrated, high-quality health care, including medical, dental, mental health, substance use treatment services and long-term care. The BEOB provides advice and counsel to support DHCS program implementation, policy development and ongoing administration (benefits, eligibility, program operations); departmental technology support functions; contract development, procurement, administration and vendor management for both services and goods; enterprise data management/contractual functions; quality and population health management; mandatory suspension activities; and clinical assurance and claims litigation. The BEOB also provides legal support Attorney General Office inquiries; and provides litigation support to the State and United States Departments of Justice.
As an Attorney Ill, the incumbent is responsible for providing house counsel services to the pharmacy benefits division and works directly to ensure that Medi-Cal beneficiaries continue to have access to prescription drugs. The Attorney III will work with multiple stake holders including the State and United States Departments of Justice, the Governor's Office, and other departments under CalHHS.
As an Attorney III, the incumbent is responsible for house counsel and litigation services including the development of sound legal strategies and recommendations necessary to support program implementation and ongoing administration; and the provision of litigation support to the State and United States Departments of Justice. The Attorney III provides senior-level legal support and counsel to the Department on complex and sensitive legal issues, as well as any litigation of any other legal issues that arise as a result of the Department's activities and programs. The Attorney III has the ability to complete work on an expedited basis with minimal supervision in time and politically-sensitive situations.
