Job Description and Duties:
Our Attorneys represent A Government Entity in State and Federal courts in all phases of litigation, including trial and appellate work. They also advise and assist A Government Entity in delivering projects. Attorneys new to practice are assigned to a practice group and trained in all aspects of the practice. They are given early exposure to discovery and trial preparation, as well as legal research and drafting pleadings. Mid-level Attorneys (Attorney III) are expected to handle all aspects of a case, including taking and defending depositions, taking cases to trial as first or second chair counsel, and appellate work. All employees receive training in Department policies and practices along with continuing education.

A Government Entity implemented a hybrid telework program. Attorneys may telework from home for a portion of the week, but are expected to report to the office in Sacramento and appear at depositions, court hearing, etc. throughout the State. Attorney III may receive promotions in place to Attorney IV based on available funds, successful performance, and compliance with labor union requirements.

This position may be eligible for telework. The amount of telework is at the discretion of the Department and based on A Government Entity's evolving telework policy. A Government Entitysupports telework, recognizing that in-person attendance may be required based on operational needs. Employees are expected to be able to report to their worksites with minimum notification if an urgent need arises. The selected candidate will be required to commute to the headquartered location as needed to meet operational needs. Business travel may be required, and reimbursement considers an employee's designated headquartered location, primary residence, and may be subject to CalHR regulations or applicable bargaining unit contract provisions. All commute expenses to the headquartered location will be the responsibility of the selected candidate.

Position located in Fresno, Fresno County.

New to State candidates will be hired into the minimum salary of the classification or minimum of alternate range when applicable.

Special Requirements:
  • The position(s) require(s) a(n) CA BAR Membership License. You will be required to provide a copy of your license prior to being hired.
