Job Description and Duties:
The Attorney III works under general direction of the Assistant Chief Counsel. The Attorney responds to complex Public Records Act (PRA) requests, conducts legal research and analysis on complex PRA issues, provides advice and counsel, and generates data reports.

  • Ability to operate a computer and knowledge of Excel and Word software programs.
  • Ability to research, interpret, and apply laws, regulations, and legal principles to specific situations. Ability to follow oral and written instruction and established procedures.
  • Ability to gather and analyze facts and evidence, reason logically, draw conclusions, and make appropriate recommendations and participate effectively in investigations and interviews.
  • Ability to prepare and present statements of fact, law, and argument clearly and logically in written and oral form.
  • Ability to prepare written documents and accurate detailed reports clearly and concisely.
  • Ability to multitask and manage multiple impending deadlines.
  • Experience in or knowledge of the California Public Records Act and the California Evidence Code.
  • Experience in or knowledge of the California Fair Employment and Housing Act (FEHA) and provisions of laws and Government Code sections administered or enforced.
  • Experience in or knowledge of the CRD complaint process, investigative techniques, and/or settlement of complaints.
  • Experience in or knowledge of the California legal system and judicial processes.
  • Knowledge of legal research methods and performing research.
  • Ability to speak a second language (bilingual) or American Sign Language.
