- Represents the County in prosecuting criminal cases under the direction of senior attorneys. Reviews police
- reports, determines appropriate charges, prepares and presents cases in court, and ensures justice through fair
- and ethical prosecution of misdemeanors and assigned felonies.
Essential Job Functions:
- Case Management: Review police reports and evidence to determine appropriate charges and case strategy.
- Legal Research: Research statutes, case law, and precedents to support charging decisions and trial preparation.
- Court Preparation: Draft motions, jury instructions, and plea agreements; organize exhibits and witnesses.
- Court Proceedings: Conduct hearings, trials, and plea negotiations in coordination with law enforcement and defense attorneys.
- Discovery & Communication: Respond to discovery requests, communicate with victims, witnesses, and defense counsel.
- On-Call Duties: Provide 24/7 on-call support to law enforcement for urgent charging decisions and search warrant
- Case Tracking: Maintain detailed records and documentation within the case management system.
- Professional Development: Participate in continuing legal education and peer training sessions.
- Public Representation: Uphold ethical standards and represent the County with integrity in all legal proceedings.
- Collaboration: Work with law enforcement, victim advocates, and community stakeholders to ensure coordinated case handling.
- Policy Support: Assist in drafting policies and internal legal protocols for prosecutorial consistency.

- Education Doctorate (Related Field)
- Experience 1 year previous relevant work experience is required.

- Valid Driver's license.
- Admission to practice law in the State of Missouri;
- Active member in good standing with the Missouri Bar, with current compliance under Rule 15 continuing legal education requirements.

- Knowledge of Missouri criminal law, court procedures, and rules of evidence.
- Skill in legal research, analysis, and application to criminal prosecution.
- Ability to effectively prosecute cases and negotiate plea agreements.
- Knowledge of ethical standards in public prosecution and confidentiality laws.
- Skill in written and oral communication, including courtroom presentation.
- Ability to manage a large caseload while meeting deadlines and priorities.
- Knowledge of legal terminology and case management systems.
- Skill in evaluating evidence and witness credibility.
- Ability to manage confidential information with integrity.
- Knowledge of courtroom decorum and professional ethics.
- Ability to work collaboratively with law enforcement and defense attorneys.
- Skill in managing discovery and preparing evidence for trial.
- Ability to prepare and argue legal motions and jury instructions.
- Knowledge of case management and docket scheduling systems.
- Ability to provide mentorship to less experienced attorneys.
