Job Description and Duties:
Deputy Attorneys General (DAGs) who are part of the Attorney General's Honors Program work in a Section within the California Department of Justice's Civil, Criminal, or Public Rights Divisions, as part of a dynamic legal team committed to public service. Honors Program DAGs will have the opportunity to work on substantive legal matters of public interest and importance. They conduct legal and other research, and prepare a variety of legal documents, including briefs, memoranda, and legislative analyses, often under tight deadlines. They assist in special investigations and the preparation of cases before state and federal courts and administrative bodies. Honors Program DAGs also advise and represent clients, including state agencies, the California Attorney General, and other state officials and constitutional officers, on a vast array of legal matters. They will also receive on-the-job training, career development programming, and mentorship, in addition to connecting with the 2027 Honors Program cohort and gaining exposure to the work being done across various Sections and Divisions of the California Department of Justice. Working Conditions:
This position may be eligible for telework. The amount of telework is at the discretion of the Department and based on DOJ's current telework policy. While DOJ supports telework, in-person attendance may be required based on operational needs. Employees are expected to be able to report to their worksite with minimal notification if an urgent need arises.

Department Information:

  • Positions Will Be Located in Various Sections Throughout the Legal Divisions (criminal, Civil, and Public Rights). Section Placement Is Contingent on Operational Needs.

    • Deputy Attorney General Range a (0-24 Months): $8,846 and Range B (2-5 Years): $9,956
  • New to State Candidates in The Dag Series Will Be Hired at The Starting Ham Salary of The Classifications.
