General Description:
The position of Attorney General shall be responsible for legally protecting Tribal assets, defending the integrity of the Tribe, assisting and advising The Executive Committee in their pursuit of progress on behalf of The A Government Entity, and managing and providing, services and representation to the Executive Committee.

Responsibilities & Duties:
The Tribal Attorney General shall perform such legal services as delegated by the Executive Committee , including, but not limited to, the following:
  • Advise Executive Committee on all legal matters impacting the Tribe, the Tribal Government, and Tribal Entities
  • Prepare and recommend appropriate tribal laws, resolutions, rules and regulations for resolution and contract approval
  • Help guide, develop, implement, and regularly evaluate tribal codes, policies and procedures, including, but not limited to legal review and approval of contracts, agreements, leases, and similar documents
  • Research and monitor federal and state legislation that could impact any of the Tribe's interests and recommend appropriate legal or legislative action.
  • Issue advisory opinions on legal questions interpreting tribal law upon request of the Executive Committee.
  • To represent the Tribe in all legal proceedings and in other matters that affect the legal interests of the Tribe.
  • Offer counsel on a variety of legal issue
  • Familiar with ICWA
  • Legal assistance with ICW.
  • Performs and assists with other duties as assigned.
  • Must adhere to A Government Entity Personnel Policies and Drug and Alcohol Policies
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and Qualifications:
A Government Entity is seeking an Attorney General with a minimum of three (3) years of experience. The Attorney General provides legal representation to the Executive Committee of the A Government Entity. Candidate must have experience in Tribal Government and Federal Indian law issues. Candidates must be licensed to practice in Oklahoma.
  • Juris Doctor Degree
  • 3-7 years' of experience required.
  • At least two (2) years' experience working with (a) a tribe, tribal entity, or organization dedicated to tribal interests or (b) a federal or state government agency with oversight or responsibility for tribal issues
  • Excellent research, writing and advocacy skills are required.
  • Must have the ability to prepare a variety of complex correspondence, as well as the ability to prioritize workflow and address new priorities as they arise.
  • Must possess a valid Oklahoma Driver's license.
  • Must adhere to A Government Entity Personnel Policies and Drug and Alcohol Policies.
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen for the Tribe.
  • Must be able to pass a State/FBI Criminal background check.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
  • Must be able to sit, stand, stoop, bend or kneel for long periods of time.
  • Must be willing to Travel
  • Sitting or standing or walking for long period of time; occasional bending, squatting, kneeling, stooping; good finger dexterity and feeling; frequent repetitive motions; talking hearing and visual acuity.
