Job Description and Duties:Are you a highly motivated attorney with workers' compensation experience seeking an opportunity to make a significant impact in the legal field? Join our esteemed legal team at State Fund.
State Compensation Insurance Fund Claims Legal Department is seeking applicants for multiple Attorney positions. The Attorneys will be assigned as needed across the entire legal department. The successful candidates will be handling/litigating sensitive and difficult Insured and State Contracts workers' compensation assignments across locations, and make in-person and virtual appearances as needed throughout the state.
Under the direction of the Assistant Chief Counsel, you will:
- Work closely with internal and external clients, draft pleadings and correspondences, conducting discovery, make appearances, and negotiate and draft settlements.
- Handle/litigate the more complex, sensitive and difficult Insured and State Contracts workers' compensation assignments across locations and make virtual and in-person appearances as needed.
- Make appearances and litigate in multiple and varied venues of the Workers' Compensation Appeals Board.
- Participate in "project" work such as providing training to others, specialized assignments, or conducting consolidated litigation involving the coordination of multiple parties and issues as necessary.
Who We're Looking for:

- Interest in handling and litigating the more complex, sensitive and difficult complex workers' compensation cases.
- Flexibility and interpersonal skill to adapt to changing work environment
- Expertise in researching and writing concisely and persuasively.
- Proficiency in reading and comprehending medical reports.
- Expertise in conducting and defending depositions of physicians and expert witnesses.
- Ability to negotiate and communicate professionally with employers and claims personnel.
- Ability to handle and litigate an active caseload, including complex lien workload.
- Independent and collaborative work style.
- Ability to work well with peers, supervisors, internal and external legal clients, other program employees at State Fund as well as judges and opposing counsel.
- Ability to appear in person at any location covered by the above offices.
- Excellent analytical, written and oral communication, research skills, and customer service/client relations skills.

Working Conditions:
