Job Summary:
Located in the heart of the nation's capital, the District of Columbia Office of Human Rights (OHR) is one of the country's premier civil rights enforcement agencies, enforcing some of the most progressive civil rights laws in the United States. We are currently seeking a talented individual for a vacant litigation-focused Attorney Advisor position.

This position is located in OHR's Office of the General Counsel (OGC), and will be assigned to the litigation team. Attorney Advisors in OGC may be assigned a variety of enforcement responsibilities, such as legal research, writing, editing, drafting of discovery-related pleadings and motions, advising and/or counseling, and litigation-related functions. Substantive focus of this position is the litigation of private-sector complaints which OHR has certified to the D.C. Commission on Human Rights (Commission) after a probable cause determination under OHR's administrative adjudication and hearing procedures. Litigation experience is required for this position. At least 4 years of post-JD litigation experience, including experience with litigating employment discrimination and civil rights matters is highly preferred. Duties and Responsibilities:
Provides expert legal advice and conducts extensive reviews of various legal documents; and provides statements of reasons, drafts letters, memoranda, and recommendations. Responsible for consulting management and supervisors on legalities that affects their organization's mission and provides clarification of policies, statutes and legislation.

Reviews and evaluates existing statutes and regulations to determine the need for new regulations or amendments or new administrative and enforcement procedures; and recommends changes and drafts new legislation and amendments of the same as needed. Reviews cases and documents to ensure support of legal position. Represents the agency in hearings and prepares necessary documentation to support cases. Assists the Office and/or the Office of the Attorney General with litigation.

Qualifications and Education:
Must have a law degree (LLB or JD) from an American Bar Association (ABA) accredited law school and have at least one (1) years post J.D. experience at or equivalent to the LA-12 grade level, or its non-District equivalent.

At least four (4) years of litigation experience is preferred for this position.

Licenses and Certifications:
The candidate must be a current member in good standing of the District of Columbia Bar or in good standing of the bar in any jurisdiction. If not a member of the District of Columbia Bar, the candidate must be sworn into the District of Columbia within 360 days of his/her initial appointment with OHR. The candidate must remain a member of the DC Bar in good standing throughout his/her tenure as an Attorney Advisor.

Work is generally performed in an office setting.
