This position provides legal counsel for the Economic Stability Program, including SNAP, TANF, FITAP, Kinship Care, and Disability Determination Services (DDS). The selected candidate will handle a diverse legal practice involving contracts, programmatic legal issues, administrative appeals, civil rights complaints, and public records requests while collaborating with agency leadership to ensure compliance with state and federal laws. Minimum Qualifications:
Possession of a current Louisiana license to practice law plus three years of experience as a practicing attorney.

Job Duties and Other Information
Job Duties:
  • Represents the Department in state and federal courts, administrative tribunals, and administrative appeals involving TANF, FITAP, STEP, SNAP, and related public assistance programs.
  • Prepares and files pleadings, conducts legal research, manages discovery, interviews witnesses, and participates in hearings, depositions, mediations, and appellate proceedings.
  • Provides legal advice and guidance to agency management and program staff on federal and state laws, regulations, policies, and procedures governing Economic Stability programs.
  • Drafts, reviews, and finalizes legal opinions, policies, contracts, legislation, and other legal documents to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Reviews and evaluates program policies, procedures, and operations to ensure compliance with state and federal requirements and recommends corrective actions when needed.
  • Researches and analyzes proposed legislation, prepares fiscal and programmatic impact statements, and recommends amendments affecting Department programs and operations.
  • Trains and mentors attorneys and program staff, assists with litigation support and subpoena responses, and performs other legal assignments as directed by the Deputy General Counsel or General Counsel.
