Make a meaningful impact on public health and Louisiana communities as a legal advisor with the Louisiana Department of Health! This position serves as an Attorney 1-4 to the Louisiana Department of Health (LDH), Bureau of Legal Services, in a senior attorney position in a highly responsible, legal, consultative, and administrative capacity. This position serves as senior counsel to the LDH Office of Public Health (OPH) and the State Health Officer (SHO) in matters pertaining to public health laws and the State Sanitary Code (SSC). The position incumbent acts as senior counsel to all offices/bureaus within OPH with the exception of the Center for Records and Statistics (Vital Records) and the Bureau of Engineering.
The incumbent in this position works closely with the Assistant Secretary of OPH, the State Health Officer, the OPH Chief Sanitarian, the Program Manager of the Section of Environmental Epidemiology and Toxicology (SEET), and the Director of the Center for Community Preparedness. Job Duties and Other Information
Job Duties:
- Serves as senior legal counsel to the Office of Public Health (OPH) and State Health Officer on matters involving public health laws and the State Sanitary Code.
- Provides legal advice, consultation, and guidance to OPH leadership and offices/bureaus on complex public health matters.
- Advises the Assistant Secretary of OPH and State Health Officer on legal and administrative issues affecting public health programs and operations.
- Provides legal counsel to OPH offices and bureaus, excluding the Center for Records and Statistics (Vital Records) and the Bureau of Engineering.
- Interprets and provides guidance regarding public health laws and requirements of the State Sanitary Code to support effective program administration.
- Collaborates with the OPH Chief Sanitarian, SEET Program Manager, and Director of the Center for Community Preparedness on legal matters related to public health and environmental health activities.
- Performs highly responsible legal, consultative, and administrative duties and provides experienced legal expertise to support LDH's public health mission and statewide initiatives.
