Description:
Schallert PC is a woman-owned workers' compensation defense firm built for attorneys who want to grow into real litigators without burning out to get there. We're fully remote, we represent insurance carriers, third-party administrators, and self-insured employers across California, and we're hiring an associate who's ready to carry their own files with senior attorneys in their corner. This isn't a document-review seat. You'll handle full files, get into hearings early, and follow a clear track toward senior responsibility — with real mentorship the whole way.
The work
- You'll manage defense files from assignment through resolution, backed by a senior attorney who's invested in your development. That includes:
- Carrying your own caseload of litigated files — guidance when you want it, room to run when you're ready
- Appearing at WCAB for status conferences, MSCs, and expedited hearings, and building toward trying your own cases
- Taking and defending depositions
- Handling discovery, AME/QME scheduling and review, and lien resolution
- Drafting pleadings, petitions, points and authorities, and settlement documents (C&Rs and stips)
- Working directly with claims professionals to keep files moving
What We're Looking For:
- Active California Bar membership in good standing
- 1–5 years of experience
- Some exposure to California workers' compensation is a plus, but we'll train the right person
- Strong legal writing and genuinely good organization
- An appetite for ownership and for getting into hearings sooner rather than later
- Comfort in a paperless, remote, tech-forward practice (EAMS, e-filing)
