Tax Debt Resolution Attorney
Guardian Tax Law – Phoenix, AZ (Hybrid)

Position Overview:
Guardian Tax Law is seeking a Tax Debt Resolution Attorney to assume primary responsibility for case execution and client representation, allowing the Managing Attorney to focus on firm growth and high-level strategic negotiation.

This role is ideal for an attorney who is confident handling IRS and state tax resolution matters, enjoys direct client advocacy, and wants to be part of a growing firm that values responsiveness, professionalism, and results.

The attorney will manage the legal department's day-to-day casework, collaborate closely with our legal assistant and operations team, and represent Guardian in the Phoenix market through professional networking and relationship development.

Core Responsibilities Case Management & Resolution
  • Independently manage a caseload of tax resolution matters
  • Conduct consultations and analyze IRS and state tax transcripts
  • Develop and execute resolution strategies including:
  • Offer in Compromise (OIC)
  • Installment Agreements
  • Currently Not Collectible (CNC)
  • Penalty Abatement
  • Appeals
  • Prepare and review financial disclosures (Forms 433-A/B/F)
  • Communicate directly with Revenue Officers and state agencies
  • Negotiate resolutions with IRS and state taxing authorities
  • Ensure timely documentation and accurate CRM updates

Legal Leadership

  • Serve as the primary legal executor for most cases
  • Exercise sound judgment in determining when matters require Managing Attorney involvement
  • Maintain high standards of documentation and file management
  • Collaborate with intake and operations to ensure smooth case onboarding and execution

Professional Networking & Market Presence

  • Attend a weekly BNI (Business Networking International) meeting in Phoenix
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with qualified referral partners (CPAs, financial advisors, etc.)
  • Represent Guardian Tax Law professionally in the Phoenix market
  • Note: This role is not responsible for primary sales closing. The Managing Attorney remains the firm's lead closer. However, professional presence and relationship cultivation are essential components of this role.

What Success Looks Like:
Within the first 90 days:
  • Ability to independently manage cases with minimal oversight
  • Clear, professional communication with clients and taxing authorities
  • Strong collaboration with the legal assistant and operations team
  • Consistent participation in weekly networking with meaningful referral relationship development
  • Reduction in legal bottlenecks currently handled by the Managing Attorney

Qualifications:
  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
  • Active Bar License (required but can be from any state)
  • 1+ years of experience in tax resolution or tax controversy preferred
  • Experience negotiating with IRS Revenue Officers
  • Strong understanding of IRS collections procedures
  • High level of written and verbal communication skills
  • Organized, detail-oriented, and systems-conscious
