Description:
Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman LLP seeks a talented junior associate with one to three years of experience to join our dynamic and accomplished State & Local Tax (SALT) practice in New York. The associate will join a practice that advises and represents a broad range of Fortune 100 clients and industry leading companies on a full spectrum of state and local tax controversy, litigation, consulting, planning, and policy matters.Key Responsibilities:
The new associate will be integrated into existing and new SALT matters, where responsibilities will include:
- Conduct legal research and draft memoranda, protests, pleadings, and briefs on SALT issues.
- Support attorneys in all aspects of multistate audits, administrative appeals, litigation, and settlement negotiations before state tax authorities, tribunals, and state courts.
- Collaborate with attorneys to advise on complex state and local tax planning and transactions.
- Participate in practice group meetings, trainings, presentations, and business development initiatives.
Ideal Qualifications:
The successful candidate will have an excellent academic background with a JD from an ABA-accredited law school, and LL.M. in Tax (preferred but not required). Admission to the New York bar, in good standing, is required. We are looking for a highly motivated associate who demonstrates initiative, resourcefulness, and a commitment to professional growth. The candidate must have strong legal research, writing, and communication skills and approach assignments with energy, attention to detail, and a genuine interest in contributing to complex, high-stakes SALT matters.
