Job Description:The Office of Revisor of Statutes of the Nebraska Legislature is currently seeking applicants for the position of Associate Revisor of Statutes I. This position involves assisting members of the Legislature in drafting legislation and assisting in the codification and publication of the Revised Statutes of Nebraska. The primary job duties for this position include the following:
- Drafts legislative bills, constitutional amendments, legislative resolutions, and amendments to pending legislation.
- Performs legal research for proposed legislation.
- Reviews legislative bills as part of the Enrollment and Review process and drafts any necessary amendments.
- Assists with the codification of passed legislation and the publication of the statutes.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Graduation from a recognized law school and a license to practice law in the State of Nebraska.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding sensitive information.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge of the structure and operation of state government, the Legislature, and the legislative process.
- Knowledge of case and statutory law, procedural law, rules, and regulations, and bill drafting conventions.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate with senators, legislative staff, stakeholders, and the public.
- Ability to work independently and organize and manage work.
- Ability to produce quality work under pressure and in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to maintain a flexible work schedule including working nights and weekends.
- Two years of work experience as a Legal Counsel with the Legislature or an equivalent position.
