Description:

Minimum Qualifications:
  • JD, LL.B., equivalent degree, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Admitted to the bar and in good standing or otherwise authorized to practice law (e.g., have registered in-house status) in the state in which the position is located.
  • 3 years of attorney-level experience in government, in-house, or at a law firm.
  • Experience in technology licensing, and open source software.
  • Experience in identifying a range of legal issues and working cross-functionally to mitigate risk.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience working on AI related matters or products.
  • Technical experience in either an academic or professional setting.
  • Knowledge of global regulations in AI, privacy, data security, intellectual property.
  • Ability to work both separately and collaboratively to achieve optimal outcomes.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a changing environment, and convey legal issues clearly and concisely to non-legal stakeholders.
  • Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills.

About the Job:
As an Associate Product Counsel supporting Google Cloud, you will advise on products and infrastructure designed for enterprise use cases. You will collaborate with the developer ecosystem, privacy specialists, a patent attorney, or general attorneys with broad enterprise legal knowledge. You will work at the crossroads of the law and new technology, helping Google Cloud build innovative and important products for developers and users around the world.

In this role, you will work on the most exciting legal issues, as disruptive technological innovations (like AI) require creative and proactive legal guidance. You will be part of a group of in-house lawyers and the projects and cases you take on. You will be collaborative — ready to partner in initiatives that influence all aspects of the business and work with Googlers from all over the company.

The Cloud Platform Product Counsel team advises executive leadership on legal issues focused on Generative AI for enterprise products.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $210,000-$312,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities:
  • Provide guidance on how Generative AI is to be implemented responsibly at scale in light of global legal and compliance requirements.
  • Help mitigate a legal risk, develop policies, and provide broad legal advice to the business.
  • Collaborate with legal subject matter specialists, regulatory, product, engineering, and business teams to launch compliant products.
  • Advise on global legal and compliance issues that arise throughout the product launch life-cycle.
