Job Description:
The Associate Immigration Attorney will provide direct legal services, education, and advocacy to immigrant clients in Washington, DC. This role focuses on family-based immigration, humanitarian relief, and removal defense, while also supporting community outreach and systemic advocacy efforts to expand immigrant access to justice. The attorney will work closely with a supervising attorney, paralegal, and other legal advocates.

Role and Duties:
Direct Legal Services
  • Represent clients before USCIS, EOIR, and other immigration agencies in a variety of immigration matters, including:
    • Family-based petitions (I-130, Adjustment of Status, Consular Processing, Naturalization)
    • Humanitarian relief (VAWA, U Visa, T Visa, Asylum)
    • Removal defense (bond hearings, representation in Immigration Court)
  • Conduct client intake, perform legal research, prepare filings, and provide consultations and referrals as needed.

Community Engagement & Education
  • Lead “Know Your Rights” workshops on immigration relief, family unity, and immigrant protections.
  • Develop culturally relevant outreach materials to educate and empower immigrant communities.

Systems Change & Advocacy
  • Identify trends and barriers in immigration casework and report findings to support policy advocacy efforts.
  • Collaborate with coalitions and legal service partners to expand access to representation.
  • Contribute to public education initiatives on immigrant rights and justice issues.

Qualifications:
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, particularly with a diverse client base.
  • Strong writing skills: ability to keep clear and accurate case notes and records.
  • Familiarity with immigrant culture and experiences will be highly valued.
