Related Midwest is seeking a highly-qualified Associate General Counsel with approximately 8–10 years

of experience, ideally combining top-tier law firm training with meaningful in-house experience to serve as the primary in-house counsel in Chicago. This role offers the opportunity to work on large-scale, transformative development projects that shape Chicago's skyline and communities, providing legal guidance on complex, high-value commercial real estate transactions. The Associate General Counsel will operate with significant autonomy, collaborate closely with internal business teams and outside counsel, and play a key role in advancing strategic initiatives, reporting directly to the General Counsel.

We'll trust you to:
  • Serve as the primary legal resource for Related Midwest's Chicago-based development projects.
  • Provide legal counsel on a variety of real estate transactions, including acquisitions, dispositions, commercial leasing, financing, and joint ventures.
  • Draft, advise on, and negotiate complex leases, including office, retail, industrial, and ground leases.
  • Structure, negotiate, and close secured commercial loan transactions, including bridge and mezzanine financing, as well as loan asset management and restructuring.
  • Advise on acquisitions, dispositions, and sale-leasebacks of single assets and portfolios, including office, retail, hotel, residential, and mixed-use properties.
  • Conduct thorough title and survey reviews for real estate transactions, ensuring compliance with legal requirements and identifying potential issues.
  • Manage outside counsel within budgetary guidelines.
  • Provide legal guidance on additional corporate or operational matters as needed.

Qualifications:
  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school an active license to practice law
  • Approximately 8–10 years of legal experience, with Big Law experience required and prior in-house experience preferred.
  • Significant experience with complex real estate transactions, including development, acquisitions, dispositions, leases, joint ventures, and financing.
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively with business partners
  • Experience with tax or litigation matters is a plus.
  • Strong drafting, negotiation, analytical, and communication skills.

Compensation:
The anticipated base salary range for this position is listed below. In addition to a competitive base salary, you will be eligible to receive discretionary bonus incentives and a comprehensive benefits package.

Anticipated base salary range: $300,000 - $325,000+

Actual base salary within the anticipated range will be determined by several components including but not limited to the individual's experience, skills, qualifications, and market factors.
