The Opportunity:
UpEquity is seeking an experienced Associate General Counsel, to join our growing team. You will be responsible for the company's late stage resolutions and collections efforts and general legal support. This role offers high visibility and is instrumental in developing new products and features, customer communications and servicing, and portfolio management optimization.
We are looking for an experienced individual who can work well across disciplines to drive portfolio performance while protecting the firm. The candidate should have experience building and managing collections/foreclosure strategies. This role will be in Austin, TX or Chicago, IL.
Key Responsibilities include:
- Manage late stage files. Negotiate modifications, home purchases, and, when necessary, manage foreclosure processes
- Select and manage outside counsel for foreclosure litigation matters
- Source and manage collection firms to collect deficits and judgments
- Opine on new products and product features. Partner across the firm to drive portfolio performance improvements
- Attend the Company's Compliance Committee meetings and work with executives and board members on related initiatives
- Provide general legal support, including contract review, NDAs, corporate matters
- Work with regulatory counsel on product enhancement and ensure compliance with state and federal regulations
- Review customer communications templates, and sales and servicing collateral
Who You Are:
- Law degree from an accredited law school
- Licensed and in good standing with the relevant state bar
- Experience working in consumer finance, preferably mortgage related products
- Collections, foreclosure, loss mitigation experience
- Sound business judgement
- Ability to balance between customer service and protecting the firm
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Strong organizational skills with ability to manage multiple priorities and projects, perform duties under time pressures, prioritize workflow and follow up, meet deadlines.
