A Social Networking Service Company is looking for an Associate General Counsel, Product & Privacy who is enthusiastic about technology and its potential for positive impact in peoples' lives. You will help drive high-profile, cross-functional initiatives across the business involving a variety of complex legal and regulatory issues, relating to data protection and privacy risk management, with a focus on human resources and security-related matters. This requires strong business acumen, a substantive knowledge of US privacy laws, and the ability to both work independently and with large multi-stakeholder teams. We are looking for someone with sharp analytical and communication skills, who is diligent, proactive, collaborative, and who has demonstrated excellent legal and business judgment and strategic thinking.

Associate General Counsel, Product & Privacy Responsibilities
  • Support A Social Networking Service Company's global privacy program, including by developing and improving privacy frameworks and processes to ensure we meet our obligations under global privacy laws.
  • Support business teams in evaluating the impact of privacy laws, regulatory guidance, enforcement actions, and other obligations on new and existing HR and security processes and internal tools and features.
  • Develop and maintain subject-matter expertise in relevant areas.
  • Support members of the Legal, Policy, and Business teams on privacy matters, including in areas related to CPRA, Recruitment, internal use of AI, and other business development opportunities.
  • Engage with global privacy regulators in connection with new privacy features and initiatives.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • J.D. degree (or foreign equivalent) and active membership in at least one U.S. state bar.
  • 8+ years of experience as a practicing attorney at a law firm and/or in-house.
  • Experience with global privacy laws, regulations, privacy programs and industry guidelines.
  • Experience with one of the following or related legal areas: litigation, regulatory, or security counseling.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • 10+ years of experience as a practicing attorney at a law firm and/or in-house.
  • Employment law or HR experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in privacy and data issues arising in one or more privacy areas such as HR data practices, data sharing, security, or privacy program implementation/management.
  • Experience using business judgment and with client counseling.
  • Experience taking on projects involving different subject matters, and working with cross-functional organizations to drive alignment.
  • Experience supporting a global team at an Internet services and technology company.
  • Experience working on multiple projects in a fast-paced environment, delivering practical advice under pressure.
