The Associate General Counsel, Privacy and Technology is responsible for providing legal guidance and recommendations to the company related to all privacy and security matters both internally and through our relationships with our health insurance carriers and partners. This position is a key member of the legal team and will support and help lead other key legal initiatives across the organization.
Responsibilities:
- Serve as the company's chief privacy officer
- Develop and maintain appropriate privacy, security, and other related policies
- Advise the business on privacy and security matters, including HIPAA, GLBA, HITRUST, and state privacy regulations including CCPA
- Provide legal advice to various groups within the company, particularly relating to laws and regulations applicable to operation of the company's technology platform for selling health insurance
- Draft and negotiate agreements with vendors, business partners, health insurance companies, technology licensors, and other third parties
Basic Qualifications:
- 8+ years of legal experience, including at a law firm and/or prior in-house experience with a focus in privacy and healthcare matters and/or technology platforms
- J.D. degree and membership in at least one U.S. state bar
- Ability to identify risks and propose alternative structures to mitigate risks that meet business needs
- Self-motivated team player with the ability to learn quickly, identify and resolve legal and business issues, drive projects and earn the confidence of and cooperation of your business partners
- When you see an issue that needs addressing, your instinct is to jump in and address it. You are also comfortable relying on the expertise and assistance of others when necessary.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience relating to laws and regulations relating to the marketing and sale of health insurance
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience relating to information privacy laws and regulations, including HIPAA, HITRUST, GLBA, and CCPA
- Experience advising on responses to governmental and regulatory agencies
- Technology, SaaS, licensing and other contract experience
