Job Title:
Associate General Counsel I
Job Purpose:
Assist the Vice President and General Counsel in providing legal services and strategic guidance to the University. Advise academic and administrative units on a broad range of legal matters affecting a state institution of higher education, including employment, civil rights, student affairs, contracts, policy review, and operational issues. Help identify and address legal risks, ensure compliance with applicable laws and policies, and support University units in effectively achieving institutional objectives.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide legal and risk management advice to university units on a broad range of issues affecting a state institution of higher education, including constitutional law, employment law, discrimination and harassment, civil rights, ethics and conflicts of interest, copyright and trademark, intellectual property, immigration, athletics, real estate, construction, public records and open meetings, student education records, and regulatory compliance.
- Draft, review, revise, negotiate, and advise on university contracts, agreements, regulations, policies, procedures, and other institutional documents.
- Advise University administrators, managers, supervisors, and academic and operational units on compliance with applicable federal, state, local, and University laws, regulations, and policies, and provide proactive legal education and training.
- Coordinate and respond to requests pursuant to the Wyoming Public Records Act and the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), including subpoenas, government investigations, and related compliance matters.
- Represent the University in internal and external administrative proceedings, including disciplinary matters involving faculty, staff, and students, and proceedings before state and federal agencies.

Minimum Qualifications:
- EDUCATION: J.D. from ABA accredited law school
- Experience: Entry level, no experience required
- Licensures, Certifications, Registrations, or Other Requirements:
- Member in good standing of the Wyoming Bar Association or who will be admitted to the Wyoming Bar within 12 months of employment.
- Valid driver's license with motor vehicle record (MVR) compliant with the University Vehicle Use Policy
