Purpose:
We are currently recruiting for a Associate General Counsel. Our team includes world class experts and dynamic go-getters. This is a full-time position based in Calgary, Alberta or Houston, TX.

Mid-level legal leader within the Canada Legal team, accountable for implementing and enhancing legal and contracting strategies across the region. Leads the development and rollout of new legal tools, templates, and training initiatives. Acts as a trusted advisor to senior business partners, independently manages complex legal matters, and formally supervises and mentors junior lawyers to build team capability and ensure alignment with organizational standards.

Responsibilities:
  • Mid-level lawyer with relevant experience and possesses strong skills in reviewing, drafting, and negotiating commercial contracts, and providing legal support to the business with limited supervision.
  • Supervises and mentors more junior lawyers within the Canada region, supporting their professional development and upskilling in line with company standards and policies.
  • Provides training and development to both the Legal Team and the Business in areas of their specialised knowledge.
  • Has begun to build effective business relationships with more senior business partners, acting as a trusted advisor on legal and commercial matters.
  • Independently advises the business on more complex project matters, including contract negotiation, risk assessment, and dispute resolution.
  • Collaborates with senior leadership, regional attorneys, CoE teams, and crossfunctional teams to manage legal risk and support business objectives .
  • Handles routine legal matters in collaboration with the relevant CoE teams and escalates complex matters as appropriate.
  • Demonstrates broad knowledge and understanding of laws and regulations in assigned area.
  • Participates in one or more practice area Working Groups in support of and in collaboration with the responsible GC and, where appropriate, the relevant CoE.
  • Inspires collaboration and professionalism by fostering an inclusive environment where diverse perspectives and ideas are valued. Provides strategic leadership by identifying and driving strategic projects and initiatives that advance both legal excellence and enable business objectives.
  • Reports to: Senior Associate General Counsel or Regional General Counsel.

What you will bring:
Technical and Industry Experience:
  • Typical Qualifications:
  • Preferred 7+years of relevant experience with demonstrated growth potential.
  • Experience in a global or matrixed organization preferred.
  • Experience with legal systems, technology tools and AI.
  • Experience in negotiating EPC and EPCM contracts.

Decision Making:
  • Operates with autonomy on complex matters; responsible for risk assessment and resolution, escalating only highly significant or precedent-setting issues.
  • Supervision Received and Authority:
  • Manages own workload and priorities; supervises and formally mentors junior lawyers, providing performance feedback.

Communication:
Effective communicator, both orally and in writing. Influences business decisions by presenting legal concepts to senior stakeholders; regularly interacts with external counsel.

Systems, Processes & Tools:
Leads the creation and rollout of new legal tools, templates, and training initiatives for the region.

Strategic Impact and Leadership:
Drives team performance and leads regional legal initiatives.

Education – Qualifications, Accreditation, Training:
Required:
  • Requires a Law degree from an accredited university and an active license to practice law in at least one Worley jurisdiction, to the extent legally required in the relevant jurisdiction.
