Primary Purpose of Organizational UnitThe Legal Affairs Unit handles all of Elizabeth City State University's legal matters at the campus level with respect to the duties, responsibilities, and authorities allocated to the campus by applicable law and policy. Legal Affairs provides responsive, preventive and comprehensive legal advice and counsel within the bounds of applicable laws, regulations and policies to aid in advancing ECSU's mission of offering academic programs for a diverse student body and providing a student-centered environment through teaching, research and community engagement.
Description of Work:
- The Associate General Counsel is part of the Legal Affairs Unit and is designated as a university employee exempt from the State Personnel Act. The incumbent reports directly to the General Counsel and serves as advisor on assigned university legal matters at the campus level.

Minimum Training and Experience:
Juris Doctor Degree from an accredited institution required. A minimum of one year of direct experience in education law preferred. Must be licensed to practice law in the State of North Carolina at time of employment. If licensed to practice in another state but not licensed in the State of North Carolina, may be provisionally employed conditioned on a requirement to obtain a license to practice law in North Carolina within one year after the date of initial employment.
