What you will do:
We are looking for a ASSOCIATE GENERAL COUNSEL who can help shape our vision and support our mission. Here is what the position will look like.
  • Provides legal advice to Colorado Access and subsidiary entities (collectively “Colorado Access”) in contemplated business transactions, corporate policy development, and potential disputes in order to help structure legal, workable arrangements and, to the extent possible, avoid misunderstandings, disputes and litigation. Provides legal guidance in identifying critical problems and applies both legal and compliance principals to yield outcomes that minimize risk and support the company's mission.
  • Drafts, reviews and negotiates legal documents such as: commercial and healthcare agreements across a wide range of subject matters, subcontractor agreements, BAAs, Data Sharing Agreements, Delegation Agreements, hearing briefs, position papers, and other appropriate documents to represent Colorado Access, and for use by Colorado Access staff.
  • Advises the executive and senior management staff, as necessary, about Colorado Access' compliance with applicable federal and/or state statutes, rules and regulations.
  • Engages in thorough research on legal and regulatory issues affecting Colorado Access, including preparing written memoranda and opinions and presenting results to executive and senior management staff.
  • Solves problems and makes decisions on a daily basis relative to contract negotiations, corporate legal questions and/or matters brought against the company, in a manner that encourages a cooperative work ethic and culture.
  • Provides internal educational services and promotes awareness of legal risk management and changes to laws impacting the company in order to help the company avoid legal problems.
  • Provides backup legal support to the Claims Appeals, Credentialing and Utilization Management departments in agency appeals, requests for information, grievances, and other legal matters, as needed.
  • Participate as legal department representative on company committees and workgroups, providing legal guidance across all lines of business and departments.
  • Provides legal guidance and services, as directed by the Deputy General Counsel, Director of Legal Services, to the boards of directors and committees of Colorado Access.
  • Hybrid work environment. Performs job duties both in-office and from a remote location, per business needs or direction from the Deputy General Counsel.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Deputy General Counsel, Director of Legal Services.

What you will bring:
Education: Juris Doctorate degree required

Experience: Minimum three to five years' experience practicing law. Demonstrated experience advising health plans, health care providers or insurance companies. Experience drafting, reviewing and negotiating contracts is preferred. Experience in corporate law (non-profit or for profit) preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills. Demonstrates support for the company's mission, vision and values. Advanced legal research skills. Logical thinking abilities and organizational skills. Computers skills to include Windows and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel). May be required to manage multiple priorities and projects with tight deadlines.

Licenses/Certifications: Licensed to practice law in the State of Colorado or ability to obtain an active license within thirty days of hire. A valid driver's license and proof of current auto insurance will be required for any position requiring driving.

Pay, Perks and Benefits at Colorado Access:
The compensation for this position is $145,000.00 - $175,000.00 annually. Colorado Access has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what Colorado Access may pay for the position at the time of posting. Colorado Access may ultimately pay more or less than the posted compensation range. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, but not based on a candidate's sex or any other protected status.
