This position will report to the Talent Team Leader. Edward Jones is seeking an Employment Policy and Compliance Counsel to support employment law compliance for U.S. operations. This position is focused on providing legal advice and guidance in the design of policies, processes, procedures, systems, and controls to ensure employment law compliance at the federal, state and local level in all 50 states. The successful candidate will be a member of an existing team of employment attorneys and will have primary responsibility for employment-related policies and designing scalable processes, systems, and controls across multiple stakeholders to comply with federal, state, and local employment regulations in all 50 states. The successful candidate also will have a strong background in wage an hour compliance. At times, the role may be asked to assist other members of the Employment Team as needed with employment generalist roles and responsibilities (e.g., internal investigations, advice and guidance to HR business partners, etc.). The successful candidate is highly motivated and proactive, drives for solutions that balance legal and business concerns, enjoys working hard and being challenged, and communicates and collaborates effectively with individuals at all levels of the organization. Note that this position has no responsibility for managing employment pre-suit disputes or employment litigation.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Support HR and other business areas in complying with requirements of employment lawsand regulatory agencies. Ensure requirements are met through HR systems, policies, processes and practices.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert and strategic advisor at all levels of the organization in employment-related obligations and HR compliance best practices, providing counsel and guidance.
  • In partnership with HR and other business areas, draft and oversee HR policies and standard operating procedures. Assist with the maintenance of policies and proactively revise and update to ensure legal compliance.
  • Develop standard procedures to identify required policy updates, acquire appropriate signoff from senior leaders, document revisions, advise stakeholders of changes, and communicate updates to associates.
  • Proactively track changes in regulations and determine impact on the organization. Coordinate with functional areas to timely identify and implement appropriate policies and practices.
  • In partnership with other stakeholders, develop scalable strategy to deliver HR compliance-related training to communicate legal and policy requirements to managerial and non-managerial associate populations and HR business partners.
  • Conduct regular assessments of HR practices to identify and evaluate risk. Recommend and implement compliant solutions.
  • Collaborate with HR and other business stakeholders to establish and maintain an employment law compliance governance framework.
  • Participate in special projects and other assignments as needed.

Hiring Minimum: $140,400

Hiring Maximum: $239,100
  • J.D. and license to practice in Missouri or an ability to obtain within six months of hire (including pursuant to Missouri Rule 8.105 if necessary).
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience focused on employment law policy and policy compliance.
  • Exceptional legal knowledge, judgment, work ethic and integrity.
  • Extensive knowledge of relevant legal area and regulatory environment.

  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve complex matters.
