Job Summary:
The Director, Sr Associate General Counsel reports to the VP, Deputy General Counsel of Performance Food Group. This role assists in managing employment-related and commercial litigation; overseeing CBA negotiations and other traditional labor issues; and non-compete matters. The Director, Sr Associate General Counsel also counsels management and Human Resources leaders on a wide range of associate relations issues, providing practical, business-minded legal guidance. Additionally, the individual in this role will interact with and advise senior management and business leaders across PFG's business segments on a variety of topics. S/he will drive process improvements and promote a culture of compliance.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Manages single-plaintiff employment litigation claims from inception to resolution, including demand letter responses, assigning and managing outside counsel, and assessing litigation costs, risks, and resolution options.
  • Assists the Legal Department in overseeing CBA negotiations, responses to union campaigns, and other traditional labor matters (grievances, ULPs, etc.); advises the business, particularly the field, on positive employee relations.
  • Assists business and HR in drafting and responding to non-compete cease and desist letters, as well as resulting litigation.
  • Provides counseling to HR and business leaders on a wide variety of employment law areas such as Title VII, ADA, ADEA, FLSA, NLRA, the WARN Act, EPA, etc.
  • Oversees the Company's subpoena responses.
  • Works collaboratively with a broad range of stakeholders and develops strong partnerships with operating leaders by providing excellent legal guidance and facilitating efficient resolution of legal and commercial questions.
  • Proactively engages operating teams to review and evaluate business practices for legal risk.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
  • Required Education: Juris Doctorate / JD from Tier 1 law school
  • Required Experience: 5-10 years in a large law firm and/or in-house legal department of a large organization
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; excellent legal judgment; strong client service skills; experience working in a matrixed, decentralized environment; proven ability to work with senior management, including top-level executives; strong, pragmatic business acumen with the ability to recognize and communicate the business consequences of legal advice; strong project management skills and work ethic, with great attention to detail and a "roll up the sleeves" attitude; must be a team player.

Preferred Qualifications:
Employment, labor, and litigation, experience is preferred

Preferred Professional Certification: Active, licensed member in good standing at least one U.S. state bar
