The Opportunity:This is a rare chance to join a tight-knit, high-performing Legal team at one of the largest and most innovative construction enterprises in the United States. The Associate General Counsel, Corporate & Verticals is a senior in-house role with broad strategic responsibility, you will be a trusted legal advisor to the General Counsel, executive leadership including the CEO, and a growing family of affiliated vertical companies spanning design-build, self-perform, technology, supply chain, global initiatives, artificial intelligence and real estate.
You will handle significant, complex matters from day one, with the autonomy to lead and the support of a collaborative team that genuinely cares about each other's success. Boston is the preferred base; exceptional candidates who prefer New York City should apply with the understanding that regular travel to Boston headquarters is expected. Responsibilities:
Legal Advisory & Client Service
- Serve as a responsive, practical legal advisor to internal clients across Suffolk and its vertical affiliates on a wide range of daily legal and business matters
- Provide clear, actionable guidance, verbal and written, under time pressure and in ambiguous situations
- Conduct training on legal and compliance topics across the organization
- Negotiate and draft a wide range of agreements: NDAs, site access, subcontracts, indemnity, consulting and professional services agreements, real estate contracts and leases, and other complex instruments
- Support new business development by reviewing RFPs and bidding documents across public and private construction projects
- Advise on corporate matters and oversee all corporate, regulatory, and government filings (annual reports, operating agreements, etc.) across all relevant Suffolk entities
- Support entity licensing nationally across jurisdictions and sectors including Gaming, Data Centers, Healthcare, Education, and Government
- Enforce existing SOPs and lead the development, drafting, and implementation of new compliance procedures as the business evolves
- Assist developing and implementing AI based legal solutions across the enterpris
Cross-Functional Leadership
- Collaborate regularly with Executive Office, Finance, Accounting, People & Culture, and Compliance teams
- Manage outside counsel relationships, including strategy, budgets, and performance
- Support HR matters and investigations; assist with complex litigation on behalf of internal clients as needed
Qualifications:
- J.D. from an accredited law school; strong academic credentials
- Active bar admission in Massachusetts or New York, or a state with reciprocity
- 10 plus years of experience in a corporate legal department and/or major full-service law firm
- Prior experience in compliance, construction, real estate, or a related industry is highly preferred
- Meaningful complex litigation experience is a significant plus
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex multi-party matters
- A self-starter and collaborator—equally comfortable leading independently and working as part of a close team

- Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university (required)
- Juris Doctorate from an ABA-accredited law school (required)
- Bar admission: Massachusetts or New York, or a reciprocal state
