The Role:
As an associate attorney, you will work with experienced employment attorneys on counseling, litigation, and workplace risk-mitigation strategy. You will take meaningful ownership of assigned matters while receiving guidance, feedback, and support as you develop your legal judgment and client-service skills.
What you will do:
Advise Employers
- Stay up to date on local, state, and federal employment laws and trends.
- Provide practical guidance on policies, high-risk decisions, and best practices.
- Help clients evaluate legal risk, business realities, and documentation needs before issues escalate.
- Assist with handbook, policy, agreement, and compliance projects.
- Draft pleadings, motions, discovery, correspondence, settlement documents, and other litigation work product.
- Analyze facts, documents, timelines, witnesses, damages, and legal theories.
- Prepare for mediations, hearings, depositions, agency proceedings, and trial-related work.
- Communicate professionally with clients, opposing counsel, agencies, witnesses, and internal team members.
- Manage deadlines, assignments, and priorities with reliability and follow-through.
- Anticipate issues, questions, and next steps.
- Bring thoughtful recommendations, not just open-ended problems, to supervising attorneys.
- Contribute to systems, templates, support staff training, and process improvements as the firm grows.

Qualifications:
Required:
- J.D. from an accredited law school.
- Active license to practice law in Washington State, or ability to become licensed promptly.
- Approximately 2–5 years of civil litigation or employment law experience.
- Strong legal research, analysis, writing, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines while maintaining accuracy and professionalism.
- Sound judgment, initiative, and willingness to take ownership of assigned matters.
Preferred:
- Experience advising employers on Washington employment law issues.
- Experience with employment litigation, agency charges, wage and hour issues, leave and accommodation matters, investigations, or policy/handbook work.
- Interest in working with small and mid-sized employers.
- Interest in building a long-term career in a growing boutique employment law firm.
