Description:
Blizzard and Zimmerman Attorneys is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Associate Attorney to join our team. This full-time, in-office position is ideal for a motivated legal professional with a passion for criminal law and legal research and writing. The role will primarily focus on criminal post-conviction relief cases (approximately 2/3 of the workload) and criminal defense pre-trial/trial (approximately 1/3 of the workload).As an Associate Attorney, you will play a critical role in advocating for clients, conducting legal research, drafting motions, and representing clients in court. Key Responsibilities:
Criminal Post-Conviction Relief Cases (2/3 of workload):
- Conduct in-depth legal research and analysis to identify potential grounds for post-conviction relief.
- Draft and file briefs, applications, motions, and petitions related to direct appeals and habeas relief.
- Review trial records, transcripts, and evidence to identify errors or constitutional violations.
- Represent clients in post-conviction arguments and hearings.
Criminal Defense Pre-Trial/Trial (1/3 of workload):
- Represent clients in all stages of criminal defense, including plea hearings, pre-trial hearings, and trials.
- Develop and execute defense strategies tailored to each client's case.
- Conduct client interviews, witness preparation, and evidence review.
- Negotiate with prosecutors to achieve favorable outcomes for clients.
General Duties:
- Maintain regular communication with clients, providing updates and guidance throughout their cases.
- Collaborate with other attorneys and staff to ensure thorough case preparation and effective representation.
- Stay current on legal developments and changes in criminal law.
- Manage a caseload efficiently while meeting deadlines and maintaining high-quality work.
Qualifications:
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
- Active license to practice law in the state of Texas (or ability to obtain licensure promptly).
- Strong interest and/or experience in criminal law, particularly post-conviction relief and criminal defense pre-trial/trial.
- Excellent research, writing, and oral advocacy skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Work Environment:
This is a full-time, in-office position located at Blizzard and Zimmerman Attorneys. Remote work is not available for this role.
