Job Overview:
This position responsible for providing legal guidance and support in the management of public records. This role requires an understanding of public records laws, regulations, and best practices. The ideal candidate will work closely with the General Counsel, Legal Division, and other divisions of the Department to ensure compliance and transparency in public records handling. This position reports to a Senior Associate Counsel.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Review and respond to public records requests in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Provide legal counsel on matters related to public records and information disclosure.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures for public records management.
  • Conduct training sessions for staff on public records compliance and best practices.
  • Assist in the preparation and review of documents for disclosure.
  • Coordinate with internal departments to ensure timely and accurate responses to public records requests.
  • Monitor and analyze changes in public records laws and regulations, and advise on their impact.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of public records management technologies and tools.
  • Support litigation and investigations involving public records issues.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Active membership in good standing with the Tennessee bar association.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in public records law or related field.
  • Strong understanding of federal, state, and local public records laws and regulations.
