Job Summary:
The Associate Counsel is a critical player in the An American Football Team legal department and will provide legal support to business units across the An American Football Team and its affiliated organizations. The position will provide support on legal matters, including drafting, reviewing, and negotiating agreements. This position will require excellent business judgment, adept problem solving and strategic thinking, with an ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-past, evolving, environment.

Primary Job Duties:
The Associate Counsel will have the daily responsibilities, without limitation, to include the following:
  • Review, draft and negotiate a variety of agreements including vendor/service agreements including software and SAAS agreements, event contracts, non-disclosure agreements, marketing and sponsorship agreements, real estate agreements, broadcast agreements, employment agreements, event agreements, advertising/sponsorship agreements, license agreements for suites and other premium stadium products, waivers, consents and general legal documentation
  • Advise and assist on privacy matters and advertising and marketing initiatives, including sweepstakes, contests and promotions, (for example, drafting rules, releases, and reviewing promotional and creative materials)
  • Advise with employee relations and labor relations concerns in partnership with People Operations and internal and external counsel
  • Assist with corporate governance and corporate finance matters
  • Support legal team with the management of various litigation and arbitration matters
  • Ensure compliance with record retention, privacy and data protection laws and regulations
  • Work closely with individual departments and related entities to anticipate, identify and manage liability areas and legal exposure; risk management
  • Advise on complex business transactions
  • Review, understand, maintain and provide advice on all corporate documents, NFL documents and agreements with business partners
  • Interpret, draft/revise and administer guidance related to NFL rules, alcoholic beverage regulations and other applicable rules and regulations
  • Help facilitate the day-to-day operations of the in-house Legal Department
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications/Requirements:
  • Education: A Juris Doctor degree from an ABA-approved law school
  • Experience: At least 2-4 years of experience as a transactional attorney
  • Admitted to practice law in the State of Arizona, or qualifying as In-House Counsel under State Bar of Arizona Rule 38(a)
  • Experience drafting and reviewing commercial contracts required
  • Superior written and oral communication skills, including ability to translate legal reasoning for non-lawyers
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to build strong, collaborative and consultative relationships with key business partners
  • Ability to maintain the highest level of confidentiality
  • Flexibility and the ability to work non-standard hours as needed
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently, ability to research and offer ideas for solutions that demonstrate flexibility and creativity
  • Proven ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple completing priorities that require strong project management and decision-making capabilities
