Position Summary:
Provide legal support and counsel on employment and labor law matters across UGI's domestic business units under the direction of Senior Counsel – HR, serving as a business partner to HR personnel on day-to-day compliance and advisory matters and supporting the management of employment litigation and administrative agency charges.

Essential Functions:
  • Provide day-to-day legal advice to Corporate and business unit HR personnel on employment and labor law compliance matters, including hiring, onboarding, employee relations, discipline, performance management, wage and hour, leaves of absence/medical-disability issues, and other multi-state regulatory compliance matters, under the supervision of Senior Counsel – HR.
  • Support the management of employment litigation (Federal and State Court) and administrative agency charges (e.g., EEOC, DOL, NLRB, and state agencies), including coordinating discovery, managing litigation hold process, assisting with case strategy development, providing internal tracking and reporting, conducting research on novel issues, and supporting mediation and settlement efforts.
  • Conduct attorney-client privileged investigations, including conducting witness interviews, collecting and organizing documentary evidence, and drafting a final investigation report for review by Senior Counsel – HR.
  • Monitor and track state and federal employment law developments to help HR team anticipate and prepare for necessary policy and training updates. Review and update HR policies and procedures, and assist with the creation, review, and delivery of related employee training materials.
  • Provide legal support to HR special projects and Senior Counsel – HR projects as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of federal and state employment law, including wage and hour, leave administration (FMLA/ADA), and employee relations matters; familiarity with California employment law, traditional labor law, and FCMSA/DOT law not required, but would be a plus.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, with the ability to translate legal analysis into clear, practical guidance for HR and business partners.
  • Developing business partnering skills, with the ability to build effective working relationships with HR and operations personnel.
  • Practical, business-focused perspective, with sound judgment in identifying issues that require escalation to senior counsel.
  • Sound investigative skills, including the ability to conduct and review workplace investigations, assess witness credibility, and document findings clearly and objectively.
  • Strong initiative and work ethic, able to manage multiple matters and work both independently and collaboratively under the guidance of senior counsel.

Minimum Qualifications:
Education: JD from an accredited Law School; undergraduate business and/or HR degree or related coursework a plus.

Length of Experience: 3-5 years of employment/labor law experience (in-house, law firm, and/or government employment agency); prior HR or corporate experience a plus.

Certifications: None required.

Licenses/Registrations: State Bar.
