The Job:
The Associate Corporate Counsel will provide advice on legal issues, risk management and contracts to support Thermo Fisher's digital and technology strategy.

This role will make an impact on technology and legal issues related to the extensive range of Thermo Fisher's digital channels, products and services, as well as digitizing internal processes and the utilization of data, all of which support our mission to enable our customers to make the world healthier, cleaner, and safer. In addition, the role will be advising on the use of AI applications, including generative AI, across many areas of science.

A person who proactively builds positive relationships, works collaboratively cross-functionally, influences through indirect authority, and communicates optimally will have the biggest impact.

We are offering the role as hybrid (4 days office, 1 day work from home), based from any of the following Thermo Fisher offices: Milan, Italy; Sofia, Bulgaria; Hillsboro, Oregon, USA; Morrisville, North Carolina, USA; Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA. Additional schedule flexibility will be offered on a case by case basis. Some international travel will be required (mainly USA and Europe) – up to 10% per annum, including overnight stays.

What Will You Do?
  • Drafts, reviews, and negotiates commercial agreements with an appropriate balance of risk mitigation and business-orientation, supporting Thermo Fisher's Digital and Technology business initiatives across Customer Enablement (eCommerce), Digital Products, Digital Services, digitizing how we work and use of data.
  • Serves a product counseling role for digital products and platforms.
  • Supports legal tools, program governance and processes to improve legal service delivery and develops new legal processes, approaches, templates, playbooks to drive efficiency at scale.
  • Develops and delivers appropriate legal trainings to many different team members.
  • Works across the Thermo Fisher Legal team including Division commercial attorneys, regional attorneys, Corporate subject matter experts including HR, IP, and Privacy & Compliance, Litigation and Regulatory professionals.
  • Participates in due diligence and other activities relating to M&A and integration activities.
  • Manages the work of outside counsel from time to time.

Who we are looking for:
  • Law degree required. Admission to a state bar or international equivalent required.
  • 5-6 years of demonstrated ability in commercial contracts including 2-3 years in technology/digital-focused commercial contracts and product counseling. Familiarity with compliance including Privacy and Cybersecurity issues a plus.
  • Ability to develop strong, positive working relationships with the business and legal teammates.
  • Ability to work across highly distributed teams across several time zones.
  • Thrives in a sophisticated, fast-paced, matrixed environment.
  • Ability to exercise good commercial judgment, be solutions-minded, have a bias for action and have a creative approach to problem-solving.
  • No experience working in life sciences required.
