Description:
Overview of Position:We are seeking entry-level and/or experienced lateral candidates for an associate attorney position. We are looking for attorneys with excellent technical abilities in mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, electrical engineering (radiofrequency electronics in particular), chemistry, or other experience related to semiconductors, and who possess domain knowledge that enables a quick understanding of the context surrounding inventions in these fields.
Attorneys in our firm have the option to work remotely full-time, and we will consider qualified candidates who prefer to work in a fully remote capacity. However, we will give preference to candidates who are willing to work in our firm's Portland, OR office location.
Responsibilities:
Responsibilities will primarily include preparing, filing, and prosecuting patent and trademark applications with the United States Patent and Trademark Office, including the following tasks:
- Meet with inventors to understand technical aspects of an invention
- Perform searching to evaluate the novelty of an invention
- Write patent applications, including a textual description and drawings illustrating the invention
- Respond to examination reports from patent offices around the world
- Successfully manage a workload of multiple projects
- After the training period, work toward meeting an annual target of 1600 billable hours
- This position includes some work on United States export-controlled matters
Qualifications & Skills:
- Undergraduate or graduate degree in engineering or science (other than biology or biological sciences)
- Admission to a state bar in any jurisdiction
- Registration with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office
- 3 or more years of experience preparing and successfully prosecuting patent applications is preferred, but not required
- Must demonstrate excellent English writing skills and verbal communication skills
- Employees must be eligible to work on United States export-controlled matters
Compensation and Benefits:
Compensation is salaried for 0-3 years of experience. For candidates with more experience who are approved to work on a percentage of billings basis, compensation is salary plus bonus determined on percentage of billings. Total annual compensation for this position may range from $130,000 - $250,000.
